While divorce litigation, mediation or the collaborative divorce process are the most common methods for arriving at a divorce agreement, some clients either cannot afford or do not want to hire an attorney or mediator to handle the entire process. Now, there is another choice: limited assistance representation (LAR).
Limited assistance representation may be the right choice for the client who wants to represent themselves in court, but who needs help understanding Massachusetts divorce law and preparing documents.
With limited legal assistance, you choose which services you need from a divorce lawyer. You remain in charge of your case and you manage the divorce process, but you have the assistance of a Massachusetts divorce attorney when you need it. For example, you may hire an attorney to provide:
- Legal advice or strategy development
- Preparation of pre-trial memorandums or temporary orders
- Drafting of a divorce agreement
- Pre-trial hearing or temporary orders
